Welcome, HALO!

Welcome, HALO! by Jenna Messier

After much anticipation, ICT Organics released its new 25(b) weed killer, HALO, this Spring!  Our customers have been trialing the product over the past few months, and we have heard some great reports about the efficacy of this product.

Here are some tips for using HALO:

HALO offers two rates of application, per the label, which you will choose depending upon the weed pressure in your lawn.

  • Low Rate: 7 oz. HALO in 1.5 to 2 gallons of water per 1000 sq. ft.
  • High Rate: 10 oz. HALO in 1.5 to 2 gallons of water per 1000 sq. ft.
  • Spot spray: 10 oz. in 1 gallon of water.

Additional Tips from the Manufacturer:
  1. To maximize results of HALO, apply with PRE-EMERG liquid, a product also produced by ICT, pre-emergent weed killer to kill both visible weeds (with HALO) and weed seeds (with PRE-EMERG). HALO and PRE-EMERG are highly compatible and can be tank mixed and sprayed together.
  2. For optimal results, apply to weeds during early periods of growth during warm, dry weather.
  3. Allow several hours before rain or watering so the product can penetrate the weeds.
  4. Important Tip: Initial results should be visible within hours, as leaves begin to wilt and discolor. HOWEVER,  a complete kill may take 1 to 2 weeks. So you must prepare yourself and your client's expectations, that it is not instantaneous eradication of weeds. You can tell the client, while HALO is slowly killing the weeds, it is moving down into the root system for a more thorough kill, which is what you desire.
  5. You can also mix HALO with Fiesta, to achieve quicker visual results, for those clients who want to see instant results.
Here is a video to illustrate how HALO works, slowly shrinking the foliage of the weeds.

Send us your pics, we want to see your results, too!
